Here’s What I Want You to Know

I have clients who at 48 move with more grace than women half their age. Not because they were always athletic some hadn’t exercised in years when they walked through my door. They just decided they weren’t done living fully.

Your body is incredible. Maybe it creaks a bit more than it used to, maybe it’s not as forgiving as it once was. But it’s still capable of so much more than you think.

The Conversations I Have Every Week

“I’m embarrassed about how stiff I am”

One of my clients felt the same way. “I used to be so elegant,” she told me quietly. Now she moves like a dancer again. Flexibility comes with practice, and the reformer supports you while you’re learning. Nobody’s judging we’re all just happy to be moving.

“What if I hurt myself?”

I understand this fear completely. That’s why we start slowly, modify everything for your body, and never push you beyond what feels safe. I’ve been doing this for years keeping women like you safe and confident is my priority.

“I feel silly starting something new at my age”

You know what’s silly? Accepting that feeling uncomfortable in your body is just part of getting older. It doesn’t have to be. One of my favourite clients started at 48 and now she’s one of my most dedicated.

“I have arthritis/osteoporosis/chronic pain”

So do many of my clients. We work with your body, not against it. Gentle movement often helps more than you’d think. Of course, we’ll chat with your doctor first I want them on our team too.

What Actually Changes (The Good Stuff)

What Actually Changes (The Good Stuff)

Your Bones Get the Message to Stay Strong

When you gently challenge your bones with resistance, they respond by building density. Think of it as a gentle reminder that you still need them to be sturdy. The reformer gives you that resistance without any jarring impact.

You Stop Worrying About Falling

There’s something magical about feeling steady on your feet again. When your core is strong and you trust your balance, you stop looking at steps and curbs like enemies. You just walk confidently.

Pain Becomes Less of a Daily Companion

I won’t promise pilates will cure everything, but I will tell you that gentle strengthening often helps more than you’d expect. When your body is aligned and supported by strong muscles, everyday activities stop hurting so much.

How We Do Things Differently

No Two Bodies Are the Same

I’ve been teaching long enough to know that the exercise that feels amazing for one person might be completely wrong for someone else. That’s why we modify everything not because you can’t do the “real” version, but because the right version is whatever works for your body today.

Experience Matters

After working with hundreds of women over 50, I’ve learned what to watch for. How certain medications affect your balance. Which positions might not be comfortable if you’ve had a hip replacement. When to suggest a different approach if your wrists are bothering you.

It’s not about having all the answers it’s about paying attention and adjusting as we go.

What a Typical Class Feels Like

We Start Slowly

The first few minutes are about checking in with your body. How are you feeling today? Any new aches or pains? We do some gentle breathing and movement to wake everything up gradually. No rushing, no pressure.

The Heart of the Class

This is where the magic happens. We work on building strength in a way that feels supported and safe. Lying on the reformer, you might be surprised how strong you can feel when the equipment is helping you. We strengthen your legs, your arms, your core all while you’re feeling held and secure.

Moving and Stretching

By now you’re warmed up and ready for some movement. We work on balance (with something to hold onto, of course), and stretching that feels absolutely delicious. The reformer helps you stretch deeper than you could on your own, safely.

Ending on a High Note

We finish with some final stretches and a moment to notice how you feel. Most people are surprised they feel taller, more relaxed, and quietly proud of what they just accomplished.

Your First Month (What to Really Expect)

Week One: “Oh, This is Nice”

You’ll probably be nervous walking in, but relieved once you see that the other clients look just like you. The reformer feels surprisingly supportive, and you’ll likely think “This is actually quite pleasant” rather than “This is torture.”

Week Two: “I Think Something’s Changing”

You’ll start noticing little things. Maybe you stand a bit straighter at the supermarket, or getting out of bed doesn’t involve the same stiffness. Your body is starting to remember what it feels like to move well.

Weeks Three and Four: “I Actually Look Forward to This”

This is when my mature clients usually get hooked. Not just because you’re getting stronger (though you are), but because it feels so good to have this time that’s just for you. Plus, you’re starting to do things that seemed impossible that first week.

Working With Your Body’s History

I’ve worked with clients who have hip replacements, ongoing back pain, arthritis in their hands, you name it. We don’t pretend these things don’t exist we work around them, with them, sometimes despite them.

Of course, I always want your doctor to know what you’re doing. If you have heart issues, recent surgery, or anything that makes you concerned about exercise, let’s chat with them first. I want them to be excited about your pilates journey too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it too late for me to start?

One client started at 48 thinking she was “over the hill.” Now she moves with more grace than women decades younger. So no, it’s never too late. Your body has been waiting patiently for you to pay attention to it again.

Will I look foolish next to younger people?

Honey, we’re all just trying to feel better in our bodies. Nobody’s watching you except to admire your courage for trying something new. Plus, you might be surprised by who struggles with what.

How long before I feel different?

Usually by your third class, you’ll notice something. Maybe it’s sleeping better, maybe it’s standing straighter. The strength comes gradually, but the feeling of taking care of yourself starts right away.

What if I can’t do something?

Then we change it until you can. I’ve never met an exercise that couldn’t be modified. Never.

How often should I come?

As often as you want to feel good. Once a week is lovely. Twice is even better. Three times and you’ll probably start feeling like a different person. But honestly, whatever fits your life is perfect.
